JOURNEY TO NET ZERO – REDUCING THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF TRANSPORT IN BATH
A NEW CONSULTATION FROM B&NES
The Council has issued a new consultation on its strategy to reduce the environmental impact of transport in Bath. The plan sets out changes needed to the transport system to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 and to create “the place we want to live and work in”.
The consultation started on 10th January and ends of 7th February. The link is: www.bathnes.gov.uk/journey-to-net-zero
The Council summarises the principal components of the policies as follows:
- the introduction of traffic cells to remove through-traffic from the city centre
- mobility hubs to help people in rural communities cycle and walk to direct convenient bus services into Bath
- a potential new mass transit system for Bath
- improved access into Bath along the main corridors through a step change in public transport provision and improved access to bus services
- new, safer cycling routes, improved crossing facilities and secure bike storage at school sites
- improved accessibility for disabled transport users including developing new technologies
The plan is, to a large extent, a summary of initiatives and ideas already being implemented or announced. There are some advances, for example, the consideration of individual charging points for electric vehicles for dwellings without off-street parking, including the acceptance of reserved parking (ie. cables crossing pavements).
This is an important document and we felt that we should draw your attention to this latest consultation now, especially as the consultation period is quite short. We would encourage you to individually respond with your views. Mike Wrigley will be undertaking some analysis on behalf of the WA and we will send a further briefing as necessary.
Thank you
Mike Wrigley & the main committee
