2024 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – WIDCOMBE SOCIAL CLUB – WEDNESDAY 1 MAY AT 7.30PM
The Annual General Meeting of the Widcombe Association will be held on Wednesday 1 May at 7.30pm at Widcombe Social Club. All members are invited to attend. Members of the Association who wish to raise an item of business at the meeting should provide written notice to the Secretary at secretary@widcombeassociation.org.uk no later than 17 April.
One item to be discussed is a proposed change to the Rules of Procedure within the Constitution and the Committee is required to give advance notice of this:
Rule 7 covers Meetings of the Association and Rule 7.1 sentence 2 currently states: “At least 10 clear days’ notice (of the meeting) shall be given to each member.”
Rule 7.2 states: “Any two members of the Association wishing to raise an item of business at a General meeting shall be entitled to have such business added to the agenda provided not less than 14 clear days written notice is given to the Secretary.”
As this stands, anyone wishing to table an item of business might not know when the meeting was due to be held and therefore would not be able to meet the requirements of Rules. The Committee is therefore proposing a Rule amendment to delete ‘10’ in Rule 7.1 and insert ‘21’.
Following the formal business of the meeting, Dan Merrett from Bathscape will give a presentation on their work and will take questions from the floor.
GARDEN CLUB: MEADOW IN MY GARDEN – WIDCOMBE SOCIAL CLUB – WEDNESDAY 17 APRIL AT 7.30pm
When we tend our gardens with wildlife in mind we open up a world of possibilities. Paul Jupp will help us to identify the possibilities in our own gardens.
For ten years Paul has been helping people to bring wildlife into their gardens through beautiful meadow planting. He is passionate about his work with groups and landscapers across the UK, including the RHS, creating beautiful wildlife-friendly planting schemes.
You can book in advance at https://widcombe-association.whitefuse.net/events/meadow-in-my-garden or pay on the door (payment by card preferred).
WIDCOMBE ART TRAIL – ADVANCE NOTICE
The annual Widcombe Art Trail will take place at various locations over the weekend of 22-23 June. Twenty eight artists have signed-up and will be exhibiting in seven venues around Widcombe including the Baptist Church and the Natural Theatre Company building. Further details will be published in due course, but you may wish to note the date.
FIRST ELECTRIC BUS IN B&NES TO BE ON ROUTE 20
The inaugural permanent electric bus service in Bath has been launched, ensuring a greener link between some of the city’s busiest locations.
The Big Lemon bus company is already running the No.20 service using diesel buses. The service is due to switch to the electric bus later this year. The route will continue to provide a vital link between the city centre, University of Bath and Royal United Hospital (RUH), while enhancing environmentally-friendly travel options for residents and visitors. This service runs through Widcombe on its way to the University.
POPE’S WALK
A notice has been posted by the Council to indicate that the southern section of Pope’s Walk adjacent to the Mulberry Park development will be closed for improvements. The works will be carried out as part of the Planning Agreement negotiated with the housing developer. We have no dates, just an indication that the works are imminent. A diversion will be in place while the works are done which will be sign-posted at either end.
PUBLIC SPACES PROTECTION ORDER
Widcombe Parade, St Matthews Place, and the canal along the back of St. Mathews Place are now included within the Public Spaces Protection Order that covers the City Centre. Notices have been posted within the protected areas in Widcombe notifying that the order is now in place. This means that the police will be more pro-active in taking action when people report bad behaviour of the sort that we witnessed last year.
Best wishes
Mike Wrigley
Chairman, and the main WA committee
