Dear Widcombe Association Member
I trust that you are continuing to keep well and safe during these difficult and strange times.
Lyncombe Hill Fields
Well, we have done it. Responsibility for most aspects of managing the fields behind Lyncombe Hill (where horses used to graze) is now with a newly formed not-for-profit Community Interest Company, sponsored by several local groups including WA. Cllr Richard Samuel (Dep Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Resources) is shown in the attached photograph handing over the keys to Chris Kinchin-Smith (Greenway Lane resident and unpaid director of the Company) at a small ceremony on Tuesday 1 September. The Company’s immediate aims are to clear rubbish and achieve a cut before winter. This is to be followed by a public meeting (almost certainly zoom) so that everyone can be involved in the future management of this lovely area of land. To register your interest or just to be kept informed please email lyncombehillfields@gmail.com
As lock down restrictions are eased, the Council and Widcombe traders are actively encouraging us all to make full use of the businesses along the Parade. Numerous businesses in the city centre have not reopened and the last thing we want is anything similar locally. As part of this ongoing campaign we have in mind a special events day during the weekend of 14th/15th November, to coincide with the Craft Fair. Watch this space and meantime do please make a point of supporting our local businesses here in Widcombe.
Widcombe Events Committee
As well as our main committee, WA has a small friendly group of individuals who organise local events: anything from an opera evening, gardening club, cycling “Wobblers”, occasional street party and so on. We are anxious to invite further individuals to join this group. It’s fun, fulfilling and a great way to be involved in local activities. If you want to learn more, do please let me know.
Bath City Farm
My August Talking Points included an item on Bath City Farm. I have since learnt that local artist and WA member, Jessica Palmer, has designed and donated a large framed collage created specially to celebrate the Farm’s 25th anniversary. Jessica is hoping it will be auctioned to help raise much-needed funds for the Farm. She has also made a collage of medicinal plants and licensed the Farm to use it on tea towels and other products also to raise money. Attached is a photograph of Jessica handing over the collage to Polly Emmott, deputy manager of the Farm.
