Here are the highlights from our main committee meeting this week. Apologies for the long email, there is a lot of things to share this month!
On Street Parking Consultation – have your say
Following consultation earlier this year, the Council has now issued a formal consultation on a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) to amend the terms of permits for vehicle parking on-street in controlled areas including Residents Parking Zones
Perhaps the most controversial proposal is to make additional charges for vehicles based on emissions. The other proposal that might be of concern is to extend the RPZ schemes to cover Sundays. The consultation finishes on 11th November. The consultation can be found on www.beta.bathttps://beta.bathnes.gov.uk/parking-TRO-consultation-autumn-2021
Christmas fair
13/14 November: Christmas will soon be with us and to get you in the spirit why not pay a visit to the Widcombe Christmas fair at Widcombe Social Club. Details at http://www.widcombechristmasmarket.com/ . If you can help by marshalling at the event please contact Kate at enamelkkateh@gmail.com
World Premiere screening of Widcombe Mummers!
During lockdown the Widcombe Mummers got together (observing Covid restrictions, of course!) to film the story of how the former pleasure garden at Lyncombe Court was named to honour King James II who stayed in Widcombe during his visit to Bath with Mary of Modena in 1682.
13 November at 2p.m. at Widcombe Baptist Church. Tickets (no charge for accompanied children under 16) include tea or coffee, and the opportunity to be tempted to buy one of the delicious cakes on offer from Giddy Flamingo Tea Parties. All proceeds go to Dorothy House Hospice Care. Tickets and more information at https://www.tickettailor.com/events/pleasuregarden
Lyncombe Hill Fields History Talk on Zoom
24 November: Delving deeper into their history – presentation will focus most strongly on what is known about some of the people who farmed these fields over past centuries. Another talk in our history series details at https://widcombe-association.whitefuse.net/events/history-talk-lyncombe-fields
How we can help the NHS
We have been asked to share this information with you as our local hospitals and community services are extremely busy and it is important that people use services appropriately. One way to help is to keep a well stocked medicine cabinet and follow your doctor’s surgery advice about when to contact your GP. More information can be found on this document and the BSW website
Our NHS – be it the RUH or our local surgery – have always been there for us so we owe it to them to help in any way we can.
Dolemeads Garden Group
We were delighted to learn that the Dolemeads Garden Group have received a grant of £4000 from the National Lottery. Work is progressing to improve this area – do take a look at the site by the railway arches.
Widcombe Association Verge Enthusiasts
WAVE is a recently formed group of people who are working to improve the verges at the western end of Widcombe Parade. They meet every Tuesday and Friday from 11 to 1 and if you would like to join us please contact Helen Peter.
Events Committee Chair
Our events committee has been ably chaired by Beverley Wallis who is now ready to hand over the baton. The events committee co-ordinates and oversees the numerous events organised by the WA and different individuals/groups are responsible for each event. The Chair isn’t expected to run or organise everything! If you think this is something you could do please contact us.
Widcombe Association Annual General Meeting
Our AGM was a successful evening and was followed by an enjoyable quiz. Details of the proceedings including the minutes, a recording of the event and the annual accounts are available at http://www.widcombeassociation.org.uk/20201021-agm/
