Rossiter Road – The Rossiter Road sub-committee continues to press ERH and the council for a specific programme for the completion of the works. Although this is still not forthcoming, the Council has assured us that priority is being given to the work in the Parade and that this, other than some final snagging works, will be complete in time for the Street Party in June.
Widcombe Street Party Sunday June 7th – This promises to be an exciting and fun day for both adults and children alike. Entertainment will include not only professional and local performers, including the Natural Theatre Company, and a guest appearance from our own Lady Margaret, but also bands and choirs from our local schools as well as the Widcombe Choir. There will be street games and face painting for the youngsters and food, drink, raffles and competitions for everyone. Check it out on the WA website.
Events – Beating the Bounds – This coming Sunday, May 10 th, there will be an opportunity to join with others in walking the route of the Parish boundary. A shorter route will be available for those who prefer it. The event will start at Ferry Lane at 1.30pm and conclude with tea and cakes in the Café in the Hall at Widcombe Junior School when you will be invited to make donations to the Great Hall Appeal and view the new Hall design proposals. More details on the website. We would like to emphasise that everyone is invited to view the exhibition at the school whether or not they have been on the walk, so do go along between 3pm and 5pm to look at the latest Great Hall designs.
AGM – Our AGM on April 23 rd was very well attended and provided an opportunity for us to hear up-dates on Rossiter Road, the Improving Widcombe initiative and the Social Club. We hope that those present found this a useful meeting and would welcome any comments. We would be delighted to receive suggestions for what you would like included in our Autumn Meeting and whom we might invite as a guest speaker.
Committee – Both Paddy Doyle and Richard Wales have left the main committee and our sincere thanks go to them both for their hard work over the years. Jeremy Boss is both running our meetings as Vice Chairman and continuing as Treasurer for the time being, but this is not sustainable in the long run. This means we have space for new committee members and would welcome an approach from anyone interested in joining us or for suggestions of people we should ask. In particular,we are seeking a new Treasurer. If this role would appeal to you, or to anyone you know, do get in touch. If you would like to serve on either the main committee or one of our Improving Widcombe groups, let us know.
