Rossiter Road – Construction on the Rossiter Road scheme will begin at the end of the month. Road closures will commence on 26th June.
Looking to the future of the Widcombe Association – Now that Rossiter Road is to become a reality, we thought it an appropriate time to start looking to the future role of WA. We have already identified key areas in which we feel we should be involved and will continue discussions on how we go about this. We hope to make a presentation at the Autumn Meeting in October.
Traders – We are inviting traders to a meeting at the beginning of July to discuss local issues which affect them.
Events – Our Events Sub-committee has put together another varied and exciting programme of summer events, which are already attracting a lot of attention. See the website for details. The Opera at Crowe Hall on June 27 th has already sold out with a waiting list of 45 people hopeful of returned tickets!
EEW – EEW has secured funding for a number of projects including running energy efficiency workshops for five classes at Widcombe Infants School and working with both the Infants and Junior Schools to save energy.
Photography Competition – We would like to encourage photographers to submit pictures on the theme ‘Widcombe through the Year’. The competition will be judged by the Royal Photographic Society with the winning twelve photos being made into a 2015 calendar. You can submit entries by opening a Flickr account or you can e-mail your pictures to widcombephoto@gmail.com .
Halfpenny Bridge Lighting – Plans are progressing, albeit slowly. It has been agreed that strips of LED lighting should be fixed in a channel under the parapet at each of the bays on the eastern side of the bridge. Dimmers will be fitted to the system to ensure light levels are optimised. Listed building consent will be required and the installation will need to take into account the passage of bats along the river below the bridge. Maximum power will be 120 watts. Our aim is to have the system in place by Autumn.
Garden Club – We are delighted that Beverley Wallis has agreed to take over the Garden Club and meetings should resume in the Autumn. Beverley has already lined up some excellent speakers.
