Talking Points for February 2016
Dear Members,
Following our committee meeting on Tuesday 2nd Feb, we thought you would be interested in the following:
- Rossiter Road
Mike Wrigley and Richard Wales, (Rossiter Road Sub-committee), together with two council officials from the Highways Department, have carried out a ‘walk through’ of the scheme to consider all the points raised by the WA in our Review submitted to the Council in December. The full review can be seen here.
In particular the following were addressed:
The White Hart junction and the pedestrian crossings of Widcombe Hill and Prior Park Road; the ’forest ‘ of poles at the eastern end; the cycle lane, where signage is unclear; the junction of Millbrook Place and the Parade, where there is a risk of collision between cyclists and cars. There is also an on-going concern about drivers turning left into the Parade from the White Hart junction and so travelling in the wrong direction. The Council’s review of the scheme is due to be carried out during February and they will be consulting with WA on this. Once their review has been completed, we are hopeful that appropriate modifications will be undertaken.
- Widcombe Magazine contributions and Cover Photo Competition
The all-new ‘Widcombe Magazine’ will appear in April. We hope that this will be a magazine that is informative and stimulating about all things ‘Widcombe”, and will draw people, both residents and others, to the many attractions our area has to offer.
We are currently searching for contributors to the magazine. Could you write something that would be of interest to our readers? Don’t be shy – get writing and let us have your contribution. All contributions will be considered by the editorial team, but, of course, publication cannot be guaranteed.
We are also again looking for a suitable photo for the front cover. This should be in portrait form in its original file size (Max 10mb) and, of course, be relevant to Widcombe. Once again we are offering a bottle of bubbly to the person whose photo appears on the cover!
We look forward to receiving your contributions and photos, which can be attached to an email in reply to this, or better emailed direct to
magazine@widcombeassociation.org.uk
Please send in your photos and magazine articles by March 1st at the latest.
- Elected Mayor for Bath and North East Somerset
The Elected Mayor for BANES referendum will be held on March 10th. To learn more before casting your vote, come along to our debate to be held in Widcombe Baptist Church at 7:30pm on Wednesday 10th February. A panel of four experts will present the arguments ‘for’ and ‘against’. You will have an opportunity to put your questions to the panel. The debate will be chaired by Paddy Doyle, former chairman of the Widcombe Association. More information about the event is available on the web site.
- Energy Efficient Widcombe
Energy Efficient Widcombe is offering Thermal Imaging surveys to local residents. There are only 15 slots left! Surveys are free to the over 60’s and households in receipt of benefits. One of our committee members has taken advantage of this and was delighted with the, generally, simple and inexpensive solutions presented as ways of conserving energy. To book your survey contact EEW.
