Here is our usual monthly round up of some issues and points arising from our last committee meeting:
1. Spring Meeting with AGM
This will be held on Thursday April 21st at 7.30pm in the new Social Club. This year we are planning something a bit different, so, after a brief meeting to cover the business of the AGM, we will open up to a community event to showcase various groups and activities that happen in Widcombe. Do come along to see just how many people are working hard to ensure that Widcombe is a wonderful place to live, work and visit. I am sure you will be surprised to see just how much is being done on a huge variety of fronts – and you may be moved to join one of these groups yourself! What’s more, you will be able to enjoy a glass of wine or a soft drink and some nibbles whilst visiting all our stands where you can talk about what is going on. This will also be a great opportunity to see our fantastic new Social Club premises.
2. Widcombe Magazine
If you haven’t already received your copy of the new look ‘Widcombe Magazine’, it will be coming your way very soon. The focus has been shifted to make this a magazine which will be of interest to all Widcombe residents, whether members of the Association or not, and we hope it will have appeal for those who live elsewhere, too. Paddy Doyle and the editorial team have worked incredibly hard to produce a magazine with all sorts of interesting articles and information about Widcombe and the some of the people who live here.
Last Monday a Launch Party for the magazine was held at the Social Club and attended by a wide spectrum of Widcombe folk. It was a lovely event when we were able to thank the team for their vision and creativity in coming up with this new publication. We would very much welcome your feedback on the magazine and you will have an opportunity to give yours at the AGM. You can also, of course, send me your comments, which I will pass on.
3. Events
If you have seen the “What’s On’ insert in the magazine, you know that the spring and summer offer a myriad of things to do, both Widcombe Association events and many others too. Amongst all that is going on, I would like to draw your attention to the new Widcombe Wayfarers walks on the second Wednesday of the month, a great opportunity to explore our lovely environment with others.
The highlight of our events programme is the Opera, ‘Madame Butterfly’, at Widcombe Manor on June 17th , 18th and 19th. A ‘not to be missed’ event, this is selling out fast. Over half the tickets have already been bought, so book soon! Members have priority booking until April 30th.
Details of these and other events are on the website.
Do send me your thoughts, ideas and comments on these or any other issues, and, where appropriate, I will pass them on to the relevant committee member.
Regards,
Liz Littlewood (Secretary)
