Beechen Cliff School – On June 2nd Mark Shelford, the new Councillor for Lyncombe, chaired a meeting with the School, attended by representatives from Bear Flat Residents’ Association, Alexandra Park Forum, Greenway and the Widcombe Association. The main topic of discussion was the long term Master plan for the School, which includes the building of a new boarding house and the demolition of the existing sports hall. It is planned to hold regular meetings with the School in future and it is to be hoped that relations between the School and local residents will continue to improve.
Committee – Deborah Clements has very kindly volunteered to become our new Treasurer. She has duly been cop-opted onto the committee. Jeremy Boss will become Chairman with the handover of Treasurer’s post taking place at the end of the month. Both appointments will be brought up for formal ratification at next AGM.
New Councillor’s visit – Jasper Becker, the new Conservative Councillor for Widcombe attended our committee meeting. This gave us an opportunity to share his vision for Widcombe and for us to put forward our concerns and aspirations for the area. Jasper’s priorities include the solution of transport and parking issues, the state of the Railway arches, the subway and the riverbank. He is fully supportive of our wish to promote Widcombe and has already started to work to try to improve signage to the area.
