Dear Widcombe Association Member
Widcombe Association AGM and Council Election Hustings
I hope already in diaries: next Tuesday 9th April at Widcombe Social Club from 7.30pm.
Hear at first-hand what your committee has been doing and the state of our accounts; let us know your thoughts and aims for Widcombe; elect or re-elect committee members for the coming 12 months.
Many of us have had more than enough of Westminster politics, but we mustn’t lose sight of the importance of local democracy. Bath and North East Somerset Council is responsible for social care, education, transport, planning, environmental health … and much, much else. Who runs the Council is important and will be decided by elections on 2 May. These will be the first based here on the new Widcombe and Lyncombe Ward. Regular readers will recall that the WA, along with others, strove hard and to obtain logical new boundaries, so now is the time to choose who is going to represent our area. Immediately following the AGM we have candidates to hear from and to question.
And this being Widcombe, we conclude the evening with a chance to chat to one another and with the candidates over a drink and nibbles.
The evening is open to all, free to members, guests £3 on the door (refunded if they sign up for membership). Let’s hope for a good turnout for what is always an enjoyable and worthwhile event.
Gardening Club: Wednesday 17th April, 7.30 at Widcombe Social Club. Christina Stapley on Herbs for the Kitchen. Christina has been growing, studying and using herbs for 40 years. She has a degree in Phototherapy, a member of the College of Practitioners and has practised as a medical herbalist for many years. Over the last 35 years she has grown more than 300 herbs and has given many talks on aspects of herb use, including historical and modern and has also written many books.
Widcombe Parade: We are fortunate to enjoy such a vibrant local centre along Widcombe Parade. A new Twitter account : WOW! What’s On Widcombe? has been launched to promote all that is going on in Widcombe. Just tweet @whatsonwidcombe for a retweet. It is aimed to inform what is going on to as wide an audience as possible. I am assured that it will not be promoting anything political or Brexit related!
Widcombe Magazine: will be out this weekend and circulated free to all Widcombe households.
Hope to see you at the AGM/Hustings
