WA Autumn Meeting – This will take place on Thursday October 22nd at 7.30pm in the Hall at Widcombe Junior School. More details will follow. We look forward to seeing you there.
Win a bottle of champagne! – We are holding a competition for the best photograph of our new High Street to be used on the cover of the Widcombe Autumn Newsletter. The prize is a bottle of champagne – drink now or keep for Christmas! We would also like to receive your photographs of Widcombe scenes to use in our 2016 Widcombe Calendar, which will be on sale later in the year. No prizes for this, just the kudos of having one calendar month represented by your photo! Details to follow.
SOS (Sort Our Subway!) – A working group, including our local Councillors and a WA committee member, has been set up to address the problem of the subway. An initial survey shows, unsurprisingly, that there is a high level of dissatisfaction with the condition of the underpass and a concern about safety. In the short term it is hoped to have the surfaces and the pavement cleaned regularly, to replace the safety mirrors and to improve the lighting. The survey shows that a majority are in favour of replacing the subway with a pedestrian crossing and the group will be working towards this end. The future of the subway may well tie in with the proposals for development of the viaduct arches.
Viaduct Arches – Steve Bradley is taking forward the ideas for the viaduct arches to be developed as an Arts area, to include artist’s studios, display areas and meeting areas with café. A steering group will be set up to explore this and how it can be progressed. Use of the subway may form part of the vision.
