- Rossiter Road – A meeting of the Rossiter Rd Steering Group has been convened for the 16th July, at which the Council will give details of their latest proposals for the design of the scheme, together with costings and timetables. At this meeting, we hope to secure agreement to a format for communicating these decisions to local residents.
- Halfpenny Bridge – It was good to see the bridge reopen within the time scheduled. There are a couple of snagging items still to be attended to. The work to install the infill panels and gate between Avonside House and the bridge will be completed, funded by the Railway Heritage Trust. The WA has contributed approximately 10% of the funds required for the railings and paving works on the northern approaches to the bridge. The tree pruning at the station end has improved the lighting but we are still pursuing our objective of installing lighting across the bridge.
- Beechen Cliff Lights – The application by Beechen Cliff School to extend the hours of operation of the lights on their all-weather pitches to 9pm will not be heard at the Development Control Committee meeting at the end of July, as a bat survey has not been carried out by the applicant. It now seems probable that this application will be refused by the planning officer.
- Interface with other groups – We reviewed our work, currently underway, in forging links with other groups in order to make WA a more approachable and inclusive organisation. There have been many useful and positive conversations and some practical opportunities for joint working have already been actioned.
- Help Wanted! – We are currently trying to identify people to fill the following roles:i) Newsletter compilerii) A committee member to co-ordinate communications and marketingiii) Volunteers to help man the WA stall on a few occasions a year.
If you know of anyone who would be willing to help in any of these areas, pleaselet us know.
- Events – WA is enjoying a successful series of summer events. If anyone would like to receive details of WA events by e-mail please send your name and e-mail address to the Secretary (secretary@widcombeassociation.org.uk) and we will ensure you are added to our dedicated events mailing list.
