Dear Widcombe Association Member
WA Autumn Meeting
Thursday 18th October Widcombe Social Club from 7.30 pm. Catch up on the latest Widcombe issues, meet your committee members, hear about the National Trust Dam Project at Prior Park and, of course, chat over drinks and nibbles. Free to members. Non-members £3, refunded if they sign up on the night.
Music for a Summer Evening
What a lovely evening it was! Maria Danishvar Brown introducing opera characters and then singing, beautifully, one of their songs. All in a lovely Widcombe Garden accompanied by a glass or two of Prosecco. As well as enjoyment, the evening raised funds for Widcombe improvements and £200 to the charity Unseen – which combats the scourge of modern slavery. I couldn’t help contrasting our lives with those of its victims.
Widcombe Magazine
Due out, first week in October. We aim to deliver a copy to every door in Widcombe so something to look out for.
Subway Closure
Contrary to information we had been given, and signs erected there, the subway was still open yesterday when I looked. But the contractor has set up and closure looks imminent. If we have to retain this subway (rather than a signalled surface crossing) then refurbishment is plainly needed; a pity though that more attention has not been given to informing and guiding the many pedestrians who go into and out of the city centre here.
