Rossiter Road – The Rossiter Road sub-committee is still pressing the council for a specific programme for the completion of the works. Leader of the Council, Paul Crossley, attended the last Steering Group meeting and two of our Rossiter Road sub-committee members subsequently met with Council Engineer Steve Froggatt and designer Vaughan Thompson who gave assurances that the completion of the works has absolute priority but admitted that there is no scope for slippage in the programme. It seems that work in the Parade, except some snagging issues, which will be dealt with on completion of the whole scheme, should now be finished by the end of the first week in May. Our local traders continue to be very hard hit and we would encourage you to give them your continued support.
Widcombe Street Party – Plans are well in hand for the celebration of our new village High Street on Sunday June 7th. Bands and entertainers are being booked. Choirs, schools and local groups will be entertaining us. There will be street food and drink. Local traders will be open, offering a range of products and services.
Events – The Events sub-committee has once again come up with a fantastic programme of events to run throughout the summer. The newsletter and the website have full listings of both WA events and other events that are going on in Widcombe over the next few months. A new WA feature for this year is the ‘Widcombe Wobblers’ series of cycle rides. The highlight, however, must be the Bath Opera performances of ‘La Traviata’ at Widcombe Manor on Friday and Saturday June 26th and 27th. Members have priority booking until April 30th, but tickets are already selling like hot cakes. Go to the website for more details and to purchase your tickets.
AGM and Hustings – Our AGM will be held on Thursday April 23 rd at 7.30pm at Widcombe Baptist Church. On the agenda will be up-dates on Rossiter Road and the Social Club. Following the business of the meeting, we will be holding a Hustings when candidates for election to the council will be telling us what they will do for Widcombe if elected and answer your questions.
